Dr Fran Smith is a Counselling Psychologist and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society. Fran has worked in a variety of NHS and private settings in both clinical and teaching capacities. She has worked with individuals (adults, older adults, adolescents and children), couples, and families and has facilitated group work. In the NHS Fran has worked in GP practices, Community Mental Health teams, Mental Health Resource Centres as well as in specific health related settings. She also has experience of working within the charity sector, for organisations such as ‘ReThink’ and ‘Samaritans’, and in a specialist school.Fran has trained and worked therapeutically using, a variety of therapeutic models however she tends to draw most from Cognitive Behavioural, Mindfulness based and Acceptance and Commitment therapy models. She is an advocate of dynamic, time limited therapy that is focussed collaboratively and specifically on the needs of the client(s).
In addition to her work with a range of clients presenting with a broad variety of presenting problems Fran specialises in working with people adjusting to living with chronic health problems. She currently runs a psychology service for a Cardiology department in a major London Hospital. Her research interests lie in adjustment to change in physical health and change in appearance.
